Journey of a Thousand Miles Starts with a Small Step

"For one woman Isharat, Parliament rocks, for those 1528 fake encounters, nothing moved. Nothing wrong in saying “Manipur, an occupied land of India and controlled by AFSPA. Those who think this Act is right, come and stay here for a week."

Who wants AFSPA in Manipur? Even the lawmakers and those using this draconian act of Colonial  British  era won’t like AFSPA in Manipur!

Why Irom Chanu Sharmila is left all alone to be the crusader against AFSPA in the World? What is the use of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur  when AFSPA is here to finish our proud race?

Morally and emotionally I was supporting Iche Sharmila all these days, without joining any LUP or Organisations in the past. I am fortunate to spread the cause of Iche through my film “School Karusi” so that the world knows about her struggle. Hopefully the only filmmaker in the region who can feature Iche in a Manipuri film.

Some opportunists have associated with Iche and got personal benefits. Many have come and went in solidarity with Irom Sharmila. Several NGOs based in different parts of the Country came with awards; some also came to take a memory photo with the anti AFSPA crusader. But those people never last long. They shouted, write once or twice and left Iche to fight the battle alone.

Some are fed up to see Iche,  some annoyed to hear her name in their busy and tensed lifestyle. Indeed, Iche journey of saving this race from extinct now is all alone, in solitude.

No one have a moment to think that her struggle is not her herself, but for the future generations and Nation called Manipur.

A campaign was run in Twitter when Iche was released for a brief hour. I am happy to share the number of engagements (2530) and impressions (20,500) for the two hashtags #SaveSharmila and #RepealAFSPA, which means around 21,000 tweeple have seen the campaign and out of these, 2500 people have retweeted, liked or Commented on the Tweets, supporting Iche’s Struggle.

This is my humble contribution and stand in solidarity with Iche. This will continue in coming days also.

Instead of playing politics over her struggle, we should support her sincerely and follow her footsteps. Journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step! Almost 15 years of struggle! Will it be justice on our part to be left in solitude now?

We want a voice, a strong voice to reach the goal now!
